Okay, so we called it Whiskey Sausage Apple Stuffing, but this Thanksgiving Dinner winner has so much more going for it. Raisins, pecans, fresh sage and cornbread – oh… and Johnsonville Mild Italian Ground Sausage – it just keeps on getting better. In fact, this stuffing superstar could be the biggest crowd pleaser around.

WHISKEY SAUSAGE APPLE STUFFING

Ingredients

  • 1 package (16 ounces) JOHNSONVILLE Mild Italian Ground Sausage
  • 8 cups cornbread stuffing
  • 4 cups diced apples
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1-1/2 cups apple juice
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh sage
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1-1/2 cups unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup whiskey
  • 1-1/2 cups pecans

Cooking Instructions

  1. Prepare cornbread stuffing using a favorite recipe.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the apples, raisins, apple juice, nutmeg, cayenne, pepper, cinnamon, sage, salt, butter and whiskey. Set aside.
  3. Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage; cook and crumble over medium heat until sausage is browned and the internal temperature is 160°F; about 10 minutes. Drain if desired.
  4. In a second bowl, add the sausage, cornbread stuffing and pecans; mix together.
  5. Spoon apple-raisin mixture over cornbread and sausage mixture; stir to combine.
  6. Transfer mixture to a non-stick dish. Bake uncovered at 400°F for 35-45 minutes or until set and top crusted.
